A Century of Authenticity

The story of Cone began late in the 1800s when brothers Moses and Ceasar Cone were salesmen for their father’s wholesale grocery firm in Baltimore.

Having established the original trading company in 1891, Moses and Ceaser decided in 1895 that they should weave their own cloth to sell. By 1912, the Cones operated four mills in Greensboro – Proximity, Revolution, White Oak and Proximity Print Works.

White Oak continues today as the flagship operation for Cone Denim. Over its 100 years as an innovator in denim, the White Oak plant has been at the center of denim product development throughout the industry.

Being a denim leader for 100 years doesn’t just happen. Over that time the White Oak plant has focused on denim exclusively, successfully combining a tradition of producing high-quality products with a heritage of creating good relationship with employees, customers, suppliers and its community.

White Oak has developed many “firsts” within the industry including the first to use a continuous indigo rope range, first to weave denim on shuttleless weaving machines, first to design and build a continuous raw stock dyeing machine for cotton, and first to use high-volume instrument technology to test cotton properties.

Cone Denim’s success and longevity is attributed to the expertise and skill of its employees, flexibility and processing capability of its equipment and innovative, “can do” culture found throughout our facilities.
